It is now easier to compare the prices of the various telecom and Internet providers. The Swedish Consumer Agency and the National Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) have launched the new web service Telepriskollen, where for the first time it is possible to compare the total costs of the telecom and Internet providers’ various offers.

The difficulty in comparing prices is one of the greatest problems for consumers in the telecommunications and broadband markets, particularly for mobile telephony. Many different factors determine what it costs: the number of calls, whether they are short or long or what time of day or night calls are made and whether they are made to fixed telephones or mobile telephones, with the same or another provider. This makes it difficult to get an overall picture if you just look at the companies’ pricelists.

The new web service Telepriskollen makes it simpler. This combines the various charges that affect the final cost together into one total monthly cost. In this way it is possible to compare various offers in an equivalent manner.

- The prices of different providers can vary substantially, so there is money to be saved in being active when comparing. The fact that the consumer now has greater opportunities to make rational choices also enhances competition, explains Karin Lindell, Director General of the Swedish Consumer Agency and Marianne Treschow, Director-General of PTS.

The quickest way to compare on www.telepriskollen.se is to look at three given telephone or Internet user patterns: ‘Light’, ‘Medium’ or ‘Heavy’, but there is also a personal calculation where it is possible to specify your own habits and needs. In addition to prices, Telepriskollen also includes facts about lock-in and cancellation periods and other important conditions. Details are continuously updated by the providers.
