95 municipal and two national licenses sold in the 3.7 GHz auction

09/11/2009

The PTS 3.7 GHz spectrum auction ended today. Six bidders won 97 licenses in the auction, total auction proceeds over four million SEK.

The PTS has now ended the auction in the 3.7 GHz band (3,6-3,8 GHz). The auction included two national licenses of 20 MHz and a total of 758 municipal licenses. These minicipal licenses could be combined regionally and nationally. Total auction proceeds of the 97 licenses are SEK 4,319,096 (approx. EUR 400,000). The auction proceeds will go to the Swedish Treasury.

Licenses were sold in the counties of Gotland, Stockholm, Uppsala and Västmanland. Four municipal licenses in Norrbotten and Västerbotten were also sold. Furthermore two national licenses were sold.

- It is gratifying that we now have two new national licenses in the band, purchased by TDC. We are also pleased to have given operators the opportunity to buy licenses in order to offer services as wireless broadband on local and regional markets, says PTS Director General Marianne Treschow.

The auction was conducted with a single round sealed bid. I.e. that closed bids were submitted along with the application in sealed envelopes. The envelopes containing the bids were opened on November 5, 2009. PTS then compiled and ranked all bids.

Bidders have won licenses as follows:

PTS will conduct a second auction in the context of this auction process. Since combinatorial bids were allowed in the auction,it has occurred that bidders, even though they have submitted bids, still not have won the respective license (nor anyone else). Bidders will now have a second chance to bid on all unallocated licenses. Only approved bidders from the first auction can participate. They don’t need to submit new applications or deposits for this round. PTS will shortly publish information about the dates when these bids must be submitted, see www.pts.se/3700mhz-auktion
