Spectrum Auction in the 3.6-3.8 GHz Band will be held this autumn

The National Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) will assign licences for broadband wireless access in the 3.6-3.8 GHz band. An auction will be held in October or November 2007.

Assignment by PTS will enable operators to set up broadband networks, which can increase competition in the broadband sector. The long-term aim is to provide more consumers with access to broadband services.

This frequency space is sufficient for four licences per municipality; two FDD licences of 2x20 MHz each and two TDD licences of 40 MHz each. These licences are technology and service-neutral and do not contain any rollout obligations. The licence period is 15 years. A bidder can purchase a maximum of one licence in each municipality.

The type of auction will be an SMRA (Simultaneous Multi-Round Auction), which shall be held over the Internet.

The open invitation is scheduled in June with a final registration date in late August. The auction will begin in October or November and should take 1-2 weeks.

Further details about auction procedures are presented in proposals for regulations and open invitation.
