The PTS auction of spectrum in the 800 MHz band starts today

28/02/2011

Today the auction to assign licenses for the use of radio transmitters in the 800 MHz band starts. Follow the progress of the auction at PTS website, at the end of each day.

The demand for broadband has increased greatly in Sweden in recent years, with a consequential increase in the need for frequencies. PTS is now assigning the 800 MHz band, which is attractive for many different kinds of services, e.g. wireless broadband or mobile telephony.

The licenses are technology and service neutral, which means that the license holder can choose which technology and area of application that will be used within the band.

Six licenses (2×5 MHz each) will be included in the auction and one actor can buy two licenses (2×10 MHz) as a maximum.

Follow the auction at pts.se

At the end of each day, but 5 P.M at the earliest, PTS will publish information on how many bidding rounds that have been finished, and the sum for the standing high bids in each bidding round, see www.pts.se/800mhz-band.

PTS considers that the auction will take approximately two to ten working days, but it may take longer. Names on license holders will for secrecy reasons be published when the auction is closed and a decision on assignment or refusal has been noticed.
