Consultation - Proposed Regulations and General Advice for number potability

15/02/2007

The Swedish National Post- & Telecom Agency intends to issue new regulation and general advices concerning number portability. The regulation will replace the two earlier regulations and general advices (PTSFS 1999:3) of number portability for fixed line telephony services and (PTSFS 2000:6) of number portability for digital mobile telephony services and SMS, which both will be reversed.

The proposed changes aim primarily at clarifying the rules with regards to language and purpose. No substantial changes are intended, however. Another aim has been to gather the rules for fixed and mobile porting in one place, instead of having two different sets of regulation.

The proposed regulations and general advice have been circulated for consultation to those providers who have been notified to PTS, the relevant authorities and organisations. The consultation bodies and parties may submit views up to and including 19 March, 2007.

The National Post- & Telecom Agency would especially appreciate comments on the unchanged timeframes for porting and whether the Swedish standards for number portability still are applicable or if they need to be updated with regards to the technical development in the area of electronic communications.
