Misdialling of Alarm Number 112

15/09/2000

SOS Alarm has currently a high frequency of misdialling of the alarm number 112. In total, SOS Alarm answers 4.6 million calls per annum. Of these, 35% are ceased lines, 20% wrong telephone number and in the case of 10% no assistance can be provided (e.g. calls to insurance companies or veterinarians). Set against this background the Post and Telecom Agency, PTS, and the Swedish Rescue Services Agency, on the assignment of the Swedish Government, have conducted a survey. The purpose of the survey is to examine the causes of why so many people misdial.
