Electronic signatures

PTS is the National Regulatory Authority according to the Qualified Electronic Signatures Act and the Qualified Electronic Signatures ordinance.

If a Certificate Service Provider would like to issue qualified certificates, the CSP has to use a specific form and submit it and some information about itself to PTS. There is no approval process.

Supervision will occur once there is a need for supervision or there is reason to believe that the CSP does not comply with the legislation. All supervision is aimed to ensure compliance with legislation i.e. the Qualified Electronic Signatures Act.

The Swedish Qualified Electronic Signatures Act is a close transposition of the European Directive 1999/93/EC.

Qualified certificates in Sweden are always issued to natural persons.
