Increased Nordic co-operation between telecom regulators

22/06/2010

The Nordic telecom regulators have agreed to increase the current co-operation between the authorities, in order to further harmonize regulative approaches.

The Nordic NRAs regularly meet to discuss the market developments and competition situation in the different national markets. The large operators today have market presence in more than one of the Nordic countries. Consistent implementation of the EU regulatory framework by the Nordic NRAs, where similar situations are treated in a consistent way by the NRAs, is important to stimulate a common market within Europe.

- Nordic NRAs must co-operate to stimulate increased investments by operators in the Nordic countries. Applying common regulatory principles between our countries will minimize regulatory uncertainty, which is one way to stimulate the investment climate, says Rauni Hagman, director general of the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority.

NRAs in Europe co-operate within the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) where all EEA countries are represented. Increased efforts to achieve international harmonization between the Nordic NRAs will be a complement to the continuous work within BEREC.
